The Importance of Voting Video Contest
The Education Committee of the League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County and the League of Women Voters of St. Petersburg, in partnership with Pinellas County Public Schools, is sponsoring a video contest for high school students on the topic of the importance of voting. The project is called “YVOTE,” and is open to any student in Pinellas County’s district public high schools and public charter schools. Video entries must be under 2 minutes.
Students can work independently or with a group of other Pinellas County high school students on their entries. The lead creator/videographer of the winning video will receive a prize of $1,000; the second place winner will receive $500; and the 3rd place winner will receive $300. In the case of multiple creators, the lead video creator will determine the most equitable way to divide the prize.
Judges for this contest are members of the League of Women Voters. They are looking for creative, effective, and motivational videos that capture the importance of voting by citizens of all age groups. Entries should be a call to action that helps others, especially those in the 18-24 age group, understand that voting is a way to use their voices to protect democracy and bring about change.
Please Note: Videos may not include endorsements or criticisms of individual candidates or of political parties. Use of material that is copyrighted or branded is prohibited. Entries that violate these policies will be disqualified.
The League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County is a non-partisan, non-profit, (501c3) organization with a history of promoting informed voter participation and enhancing citizen engagement. The purpose of this contest is to engage young adult (both eligible and about to be eligible) voters to actively participate in the process of voting; the fundamental right of every US citizen and the foundation of a healthy democracy.
