By participating in the “YVOTE” video contest, each contestant (and their parent or legal guardian) unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County (LWVNPC) and the League of Women Voters of St. Petersburg Area (LWVSPA).
Who can enter? What permissions are required?
- The League of Women Voters “YVOTE” video contest is open to all current Pinellas County public high school and public charter high school students.
- While several students may work together on the project, it must be submitted by only one of the participants (the “Project Leader”). Cash prizes will be awarded to the Project Leader and the school only. This can be a solo or group project with up to 3 high school students working together.
- The project leader will determine the appropriate allocation of the award funds to the other members of the team. The League of Women Voters is not responsible for allocating prize money among individual participants.
- All contestants under 18 must submit an Entry Form, have signed permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter the contest and submit a Video Release Form for ALL Minors who appear in the video with their Entry Form.
- All contestants aged 18 or over must submit an Entry Form and complete and submit the Video Release Form for ALL Adults who appear in the video with their Entry Form.

Judging, Legal Requirements, and Ownership for Video Entries
- A copy of the scoring criteria (Video Rubric) can be found HERE.
- All work must be original or in the Public Domain. If copyrighted material is used (such as music, stock footage, and sound effects), it must be cited and obtained with permission for use.
- No professional assistance is allowed. Adults may provide verbal guidance and appear on a video or poster, but all entries must be produced by students.
- All entries must have a teacher advisor indicated on the entry form.
Entries will be DISQUALIFIED for the following reasons:
- Plagiarism or use of copyrighted material without permission from the creator.
- Contains language or images that support, demean, or disparage any political party, elected official, current or former candidate or ideology.
- Contains brand names or trademarks except those related to the League of Women Voters.
- Contains material that is indecent, obscene, pornographic, hateful, defamatory, slanderous, libelous, objectionable, or otherwise lacking in taste or quality in the view of the judges.
- Contains any material or promotes any activity that is unlawful.
- Less than 30 seconds or greater than 90 seconds
Please Note: Videos may not include endorsements or criticisms of individual candidates or of political parties. Use of material that is copyrighted or branded is prohibited. Entries that violate these policies will be disqualified.
The League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County is a non-partisan, non-profit, (501c3) organization with a history of promoting informed voter participation and enhancing citizen engagement. The purpose of this contest is to engage young adult (both eligible and about to be eligible) voters to actively participate in the process of voting; the fundamental right of every US citizen and the foundation of a healthy democracy.
